Reflection – Phase 1

Phase 1 was eye-opening, very helpful, and interesting, especially for a beginner like me. I am still working on the LabSim projects and have not taken the MO-110 Word certification exam yet. I plan to continue using the same approach for the future phases as well.

For Discussion 4, Part 2, I chose 4.8.3 – Advanced Table Formatting. In this section, I learned how to convert text into a table and convert a table back into text. I also learned how to adjust spacing, such as spacing between cells.

Before this lesson, when I thought about tables, the first thing that came to my mind was Excel. However, now I realize that we can also create and format tables in Microsoft Word, which is very useful for organizing information within documents.

  1. Hi Tegene, I agree with you that Phase 1 can be very eye opening, especially if you are new to these programs. Before this class I also thought Microsoft Word was mostly just typing documents, but there are actually many tools hidden in it that make organizing information easier. The table features are a good example of that.

Personally, I actually find making tables in Word much easier compared to Excel, but that might just be because I used Word a lot during college. Well technically my college back in the Philippines, not here in the U.S. Most of our papers and reports were done in Word, so I got used to it. Excel was something I barely touched. My mom used Excel a lot because she worked as a banker and accountant, but for me it wasn’t really part of my daily work before. So when people mention tables, my brain still thinks of Word first before Excel.

  2. Yes, many features such as a table is available across Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint :-)

As Phase 1 was eye-opening, Phase 2 will be challenging!

I know you will persevere and perform your best, Tegene ^_^

  3. Hello Tegene, I definitely agree that the word learning process was very helpful as for any of the excel, powerpoint, or word. For me word is the one application I happen to use the most out of any of the whole bunch. So being able to learn shortcuts, work-arounds and even constructing tables are highly beneficial while navigating through these applications.

  4. Hi Tegene!! Advanced Table Formatting is actually a really practical topic, especially converting text to tables and adjusting spacing. Those small features make a big difference in how clean and structured a document looks.

  5. Hey Tegene, yes Phase 1 was really eye opening, it was definitely a wake up call for anyone who procrastinates, something I admit doing when I get too comfortable. As for the Word Exam, I remember you were there when we took the test together in the other room, I'm sure you did well and will keep going, have a great rest of the semester!

  6. Hi Tegene. I like the use of tables because it allows me to see different parts of data separately. I would use tables to create schedules that I would follow every day. Do you know if you will be creating tables in Microsoft Word or Microsoft Office in your future career?

  7. Hello Tegene. Advanced table formatting is very helpful for being able to format and design tables quickly. I'm finding this class very interesting as well. Even in the past I have not had many chances to use a table in either word or excel, actually I don't think I've used tables at all before this class.

  10. Hello Tegene, just like you when I thought of tables it was also in Excel and not in Word. That chapter and our assignment on tables really helped understand how to create and format tables more smoothly.

  11. Hi Tegene, I think Word set a lot of the foundation for other Microsoft Office applications. Converting text to tables and vice versa was definitely something I didn't know I could do until LabSim.

  14. Hi Tegene, it’s interesting how you pointed out that Word can also be used for tables, not just Excel. I was aware of this feature, but I didn’t realize how much you can actually design and customize them. I really like it, and it has helped me gain more confidence. Your post shows a good progression from beginner to gaining more confidence, and that’s really motivating to see.

  15. When it talked about tables I thought it was a dining table of some sort. Just kidding. While knowing that word has the table feature, I never really knew how everything worked. Designing, formatting and integrating files from Excel to Word was something mind blowing to learn even though they should obviously work together. Fun lessons and we learn everyday.

  16. I thought the same thing before this class too 😅 I always associated tables with Excel, not Word. It’s cool seeing how many useful formatting tools Word actually has once you start learning them.

  17. Reading this we can relate that we start off as a beginner somewhere, at the beginning of the class we had to either work ahead and/or be on track and pushing assignments off really made us have to work harder so hope all the hard work pays off!

  18. Your comment about how before this lesson when you thought about tables, the first thing that came to your mind was Excel is a little funny to me because I thought the same! I thought Word was called word as it was only meant for writing letters or essays. It's interesting how we've discovered a lot of 'hidden' features because of this class.
