My First Impression of IS101

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog!

My name is Tegene Tessema, and this is my first ever blog post, required for IS101.

I am truly grateful for taking IS101 class because it helps scale up my skills and engagement across different web platforms. In Discussion 2 part 2, I choose 1.2.2, Web and Internet Facts, where I learned that the term internet typically refers to the vast collection of networking hardware and physical computing devices. Every computing device that accesses the internet is assigned a unique Internet Protocol (IP) address, which enables it to be identified on a network.

Overall, I am very excited to upgrade my digital skills and keep up with the current digital world.

  1. Welcome to blogging and IS101-3003, Spring 2026, Tegene :-)

The internet may be vast and constantly evolving, the fact that each device must somehow be uniquely identified will never change!

I am excited to see you upgrade your digital skills throughout the semester ^_^

  2. Hi Tegene, I like how you explained the difference between the internet and the web. Before this class, I honestly did not think much about IP addresses either. My experience with IP addresses mostly comes from installing wireless printers using TCP IP settings. Sometimes the printer would not connect unless the correct IP was entered manually. I have also had to reset our internet through the router, especially when the Wi Fi connection starts acting up. Restarting the router and getting a new IP address sometimes fixes random connection problems. It made me realize how much happens behind the scenes when we just click connect. Learning the basics in IS101 helps connect those real life experiences to actual concepts.

  3. I also want to mention that there is much going on in the internet in general that is why I got into Cybersecurity. There is so much to learn about our currently technology that is improved over generations that is why I can comment on your first blog post! The digital world is not for everyone but I assure you, taking this class is a good decision for your advancement in our world today.

  4. Hi Tegene, congrats on the first blog! :) and seeing your excitement about upgrading your digital skills and literacy to not 'fall behind' as the digital world moves forward is inspiring me to also strive to not fall behind. Especially nowadays, almost every corner of the internet is filled to the brim with AI and as embarrassing as it is, I sometimes fail to notice or even guess if something was AI generated or not. I like that you try to keep up with the 'modern digital world'.

  5. Hi Tegene, I like your positive attitude toward learning new digital skills through IS101. Your point about the difference between the internet and the web was also interesting, especially the idea that every device has its own IP address to communicate on a network. Understanding these basic concepts is really important today since we use the internet for almost everything. It’s great that you’re motivated to keep improving your digital skills and staying up to date with the digital world.

  6. Hi Tegene,

It’s cool that this is your first blog post and that you’re already excited about learning more in IS101. Technology changes so fast, so improving digital skills and understanding different web platforms is really useful.

The part you mentioned about the internet and IP addresses is interesting too. It’s crazy to think that every device connected to the internet has its own unique IP address so it can communicate on a network. Learning things like this helps us understand how the internet actually works behind the scenes.

Good luck with the rest of the class!

  7. Hello Tegene, digital literacy is important nowadays so it's a great thing to be in this course learning about different aspects of using the internet and a computer. I didn't know that the internet referred to the "vast collection of networking hardware and physical computing devices", I've just seen the internet as the internet and nothing else. As much as I casually use the internet I've never learned about it in depth. I hope we're able to successfully learn a lot in this course!

  8. Hey Tegene!
Truthfully when Prof. Wu asked us what the Internet was, I was slightly taken aback that I didn't have a straight answer, but in the broader context of TCP and UCP protocols it made a bit more sense!
    Best,
    Rafa

  11. Tegene, your entry into the world of digital literacy is marked by a clear-eyed technical focus, as you successfully distinguish between the physical infrastructure of the internet and the logical identification of devices through unique IP addresses, establishing a strong foundation for your continued growth across professional web platforms.

  15. Hi Tegene, when signing up for this class I was excited to learn about Microsoft Office but it has shown us much more than that. Teaching us how to understand how the internet works and the terms that are used have been very helpful.
